Welcome to the Queensway Terrace North (QTN) Frank Ryan Fitness Park, a community initiative offering a no-cost fitness option for everyone in the Queensway Terrace North neighborhood.

Exercise Equipment

Amenities

  • Park bench (2)
  • Picnic table (1)
  • Garbage and recycling (1)
  • Push button street light (1)

Location (unofficial)

The suggested location is shaded red in the image below. It’s important to note that the final location has not been formally decided.

The advantages of this area are:

  1. Visible from the street. For safety reasons, the fitness park should be strategically positioned for visibility from the street. This ensures quick assessment by passersby, enhancing overall safety and security
  2. Near (but not too near) the kids playground. Allowing parents to use the park while their children use the play structure.
  3. Shade from the nearby trees to keep cool.
  4. In the open field, letting the wind carry off mosquitoes.
  5. Can be incorporated into baseball practices. Does not interfere with baseball games. The baseball fields are not for adults, the kids do not hit that far.

Progress/Updates

In Progress – Fundraising and fitness park design phase. The city will soon assign a planner to design, solicit input, and manage the procurement process. Our community is putting together a fundraising committee to help raise the additional $100k. Initially we anticipate approaching larger institutional sponsors to help finance the fitness park. We will also be looking to leverage other available grants.

Tuesday, September 26, 2023 – The City of Ottawa approves $100k (50%) of the projected costs for the fitness park. The grant was approved through the Community Partnership Major Capital Program. The program is an initiative to implement major capital improvements and additions to facilities related to parks and recreation on a cost-sharing basis between the City and community groups.

July, 2023 – Community consultation. Engaged the community through online surveys and door-to-door consultations to gather thoughts and votes on the proposed fitness park.
